Readers selecting books during the Eureka Springs ninth annual Books in Bloom. Elegant

Ever have one of those really great weekends filled with everything delightful?  Books in Bloom out of Eureka Springs (Arkansas) was one.  Two days before I attended a jam-packed workshop from the Village Writing School (what else but on publishing and marketing) that offered a perfect segway into an elegant regional literary festival.

Bestselling authors read like a who’s who of the book world: William Bernhardt (Game Master and Challengers of the Dust), Tess Gerritsen (25 mystery titles), and Roy Blount (Long Time Leaving Dispatches from Up South), and Amanda Eyre Ward (five novels).  Toss in regional favorites Robert Cochran with co-author Suzanne McCray’s Lights! Camera! Arkansas!, Abby Burnett’s Gone to the Grave, and Margaret Jones Bolster with Kaleidoscope: Redrawing an American Family Tree and you’ve got some pretty heady stuff.

Simply put, I was honored and humbled for my Washed in the Water:Tales from the South to be included in this august company.

Added benefit —the army of volunteers working the event benefitting the Carroll and Madison Public Library.

  1. I was there and enjoyed seeing you and all the other wonderful writers. Eureka Springs is my home away from home and the grounds of the Crescent Hotel are a wonderful venue for this event. Kudos to all the writers and to the organizers and volunteers who make this happen. Looking at you Carroll and Madison Country Public Library!
